lock washer is a "short" spring

steel lock washer typically is a "one time" spring due to lack of "elasticity"

BMG lock washer hence can replace spring with much tighter gap space.

Spring typically has limited lifetime compress/decompress. This is why home button was the weak link in iphone for reliablity.
