Yep, you have to take to good hard look at where we are now and how we got here since the past 50 years or better. What we have is taken for granted. I have often thought what it would be like to be deprived of our power sources and what we would do without them !
You're talkin about EMP (electro-magnetic-pulse.) The US military actually has a facility where they test this stuff. The pulse normally occurs when a nuclear weapon is detonated - but the testing facility has a device that creates a weak pulse with a range under 100' without actually detonating a bomb...very interesting. They say if a nuclear bomb was detonated at a high enough altitude, it could knock out the electronics in most if not all of north america....they say it's not a matter of if it will happen, but when. EMP weapons can be as small as a can of soda and are supposedly easy to make.
