I don't doubt your figures. I eat my own dog food. I power my home (in Arizona) with a wind turbine system and a PV system. In Arizona.
But it is a grid-tied system because alternate energy isn't reliable. The sun doesn't always shine. The wind doesn't always blow. Everyone doesn't live in Arizona.
Most drivers do not want to limit their mileage to 37 miles per day.
I certainly do not want to invest in additional solar capacity after paying the price for a Tesla (I know what such an expense can be).
