Cool

I lived there for several years in early 90s.
(Copenhagen, Helsingor and Herring)

That’s not how I remember it.

I guess you are an exception for Danes being the happiest people on the planet

Jasbg, wow, it's really sad to hear what's happened to your country. Out of ignorance, 50% of Americans would take issue with your claims. No one would say, IMO, that there's anything wrong with some immigration. However, it becomes an issue when immigration on a greater scale, and how that immigration is manifested in that country, certainly, can produce major degradation to the host's quality of life. That goes for means, culture, and unfortunately, at worst, lawlessness. I was in Stockholm in 2010. I thought it was beautiful. I was there for only a week, but from my observation, it didn't appear that the streets were overrun by immigrants on mass. As I passed through customs, I could sense there was an overt effort to curtail further immigration.

We know what happened in Germany when uneducated, unskilled, low wage workers were invited on mass to do the work Germans didn't want. Germany didn't foresee, that for example, Turks from farmlands who hadn't seen a modern toilet would refuse to assimilate. That, in of itself, fueled the flames of prejudice and resentment from both sides. When I was in Germany in 1984, there were approximately $7 million guest workers. At that point, there was no going back to the way things were.

Unfortunately, the Syrian War caused entire populations to leave their worn-torn lands, and under great pressure from the U.N. and other immense pressures, forced these populations to be allowed in and taken care of. There’s much to appreciate when cultures are allowed to live with their unique cultures intact. That’s why people have always enjoyed traveling to other countries, which is to experience and enjoy other cultures uniquely different from their own. These small culturally rich countries were not founded under the same immigration based formula the U.S. was. The cost to your country must be devastating. Sadly, like the German experiment, at this point, there's no going back to the way things were.
