you are of course correct, especially as Mori range lipids were relatively appropriate for use of the Friedewald equation. I believe the Friedewald equation was always a best guess compromise to avoid routine direct LDL measurement, that broke down badly at the extremes eg when the TG's >400 mg/dl, and/or if the LDL was prexsitently low in high risk patients on statin and LDL>70 mg/dl.
