Dr Nissen is with the Cleveland Clinic...I believe he sees himself in competition with DR Bhatt of the Brigham in Boston, who was the lead investigator in the R-IT trial...He has long been a critic of "fish oil" Vascepa...He was a lead investigator in the failed Omacor STRENGTH trial in which Astra Zeneca lost hundreds on millions of dollars...Even after the R-IT excellent results were released,he was a detractor of Vascepa espousing the now discredited theory that the bad effects of the mineral oil used in the placebo group in the R-IT study were responsible for the success of the Vascepa group in reducing CVD.
