I think a lot of the pushback comes from the over hype of that Australian paper that killed COVD-19 virus in a petri dish.

This is an excelent read on it if you would rather not read my version.

Yes, it is an approved drug that is very useful in killing parasites and fairly safe. It has also been known to have ant-viral capabilities for years.

Caly et all noted it killed COVD-19 in petri dishes. No dispute on that. Problem was the concentration they used was way high.

See these letters in NEJM.

The first notes that the expected human dose needed to match the Caly experiment would be higher than doses now approved for use.

The second notes that the effective concentration in Caly was far higher than what is needed to kill certain parsites.

Caly co authors reply by not disputing that, only noting that the moa makes it worth further study.

Ok, no argument it is worth study. But that still leaves it with no data asserting it would actually work.

That aside, the reason for interest is that it did have some noted anti-viral activity against other virus in the past that might apply here. OK, reason again to look at it. As far as I can find though, there was one human P2 study in dengue fever with it, and it failed

In summary, worth looking at, just like many agents are.
