They are just following the Federal guidelines in Colorado so that all the states are on the same page. People who have been diagnosed with Covid-19 who have died from any reason is the standard for reporting for all the states. Since cause of death is a gray area, for comparison purposes this is better. For example if some one is admitted with Covid-19 and ends up dying of a heart attack-was this caused by Covid-19 damage or would he have died anyway. If one coroner would list this as death from complications from Covid-19, but another as a heart attack-the statistics would be skewed. I have also read that Covid-19 deaths might be under reported in some states which have seen a large spike in people dying at home. I would guess that a good percentage of these people died from Covid-19, but since they were never diagnosed they would not be included in the count.
