Has everything to do with it. Avxl is not special, in fact they are probably on the low end of biotechs due to lack of revenue and small chances of approval happening soon. The only Phase 3 trial is a long way from completion
Why would a bio tech index need to increase the number of shares it owns just because the index is going up?
It would still own all the shares it needs from the start to maintain the representation. Unless one stock was going up in relation to the rest of the index. If it was Dollar weighted the index might have to by more, but that would be a result of a share price increase, not a cause.
