You are right to point out the distinction, rules for Hong Kong differ from Mainland China, as negotiated to remain status quo for 50 years with the British in 1997. China is not however honoring that agreement thus the turmoil. Hong Kong has it's own currency, and by the way for those that believe Chinese cannot own stock, that is sour news for the Hong Kong stock exchange.
