"Most should get an index fund and check back every decade or so." That's probably the best succinct advice ever about the market. I've been thru 2008, 2000 and several before those. Of course you need some bonds and cash and minimal debt to persevere during the inevitable tough times.
You also have to know that your opinion about the market's direction is worthless (and so is mine).
