That security interest in the patents was a financial interest, a lien for which the patents and other things (if that whole document linked is actually read...) were the collateral. Just like the security interests of the lenders who had a lien on the plant, Mitsui had a lien against the patents and the other items listed in that document.
What was overlooked? The vesting order for the sale of the plant, patents, and everything else, discharged all security interests and claims against all of the assets listed in the APA no matter what they were...
