Blanket non-compete clauses are BS and not enforceable, otherwise, how would anybody ever be able to move between companies in the same industry?

I agree completely and have been thinking about this. Linda and Les are are lawyers that trained at the best schools in the world and they have decades of experience. No way Dr D goes back to work at Merck seamlessly without their blessing.
