Ode to Elena,
She comes to work at dawn’s first light
And stays long after darkness falls;
She never shirks from deadlines tight
Or passes on the hardest hauls;
To make dumb projects turn out right
She always knows the best cure-alls.
It’s not the pay, not power lust
That keeps her focused on her tasks;
An inner voice she’s learned to trust
Is the cocoon in which she basks;
To lesser goals she won’t adjust,
Her love of best is no mere mask.
All managers well know her type,
They seek it out and secret gloat;
No burden wrings from her a gripe,
She bears the load as they showboat;
While others bubble up on hype
It’s her that keeps the boat afloat.
