Ombow, Yes, a lot of songwriters say they have no idea where their lyrics come from, the words just come to them and sometimes years later they have more insights into what it all meant.
But there definitely seemed to be some kind of audio edit on that 60 minutes interview, possibly a double edit. He starts saying 'a deal with' and then 'a bargain with the ----'. Interviews are routinely edited and shortened, but in this case it appears a word was edited out.
It no secret that much of the music industry and Hollywood are into the occult and dark side. But maybe he said 'a bargain with the Lord', and the Hollywood censors freaked out and removed it. That would be in keeping with the media in general these days. If a child brings a Bible to school these days they likely get suspended for a month. Bring a copy of something by Aleister Crowley or Helen Blavatsky and no problemo.
