Metal ions such as from copper and zinc can be applied topically to help reduce the chance of infection. I used to used the fungicide Mancozeb, which is a form of zinc, for plant based diseases. Some doctors have already suggested the use of such topical solutions on the inside of the nose and zinc cold tabs to help build systemic level of zinc in the circulating blood stream. Copper has also been found to be effective on MERSA. Best wishes.
