Dr. Robert Fischell is truly a remarkable scientist, scholar, businessman, humanitarian and human being Srin.

What’s even more remarkable however is that it runs in the family..Dr Robert Fischell cofounded Angel Medical Systems with his two brothers David and Tim.

What a truly amazing family. My guess is with a little research one would find generations of Fischells working for the betterment of mankind..

Robert E. Fischell received his BSME degree from Duke University and MS and ScD degrees from the University of Maryland. At John’s Hopkins Dr. Fischell was the Chief Engineer of the Space Department where he worked on more than 50 spacecraft. His interests at Johns Hopkins then turned to the invention of new medical devices such as pacemakers and implantable heart defibrillators.

Dr. Fischell is a prolific inventor with over 200 issued US and foreign patents many of which have started new medical device companies. Starting in 1969, Dr. Fischell began the formation of 14 private companies that licensed his patents on medical devices. These companies included Pacesetter Systems, Inc. (now Abbott), IsoStent, Inc. (new stent concepts licensed to J&J), NeuroPace, Inc. (closed loop neurostimulation for epileptic seizures), NeuraLieve, Inc (transcranial magnetic stimulation for migraine), and Angel Medical Systems, Inc.

In 2005 he received the TED award (with a $100,000 prize) for contributions to medical technology. In 2007 he received the Master Inventor award from the Applied Physics Laboratory of the Johns Hopkins University and the prestigious Woodrow Wilson Prize for Public Service from the Woodrow Wilson Society for Scholars. He is a Trustee of the University of Maryland.

David R. Fischell, PhD.

David Fischell is a serial entrepreneur who has founded nine biomedical device companies in the last fifteen years, including Angel Medical Systems. He is also a Director of eight biomedical technology companies (including five of those he founded) and was the primary designer of the BX Velocity™ and Cypher™ coronary stents for Cordis, a Johnson & Johnson Company.

David is chairman of the Cornell University Biomedical Engineering Advisory Board, and a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. Other companies founded by David include Neuralieve, Inc (2002) a developer of transcranial magnetic stimulation systems for migraine headaches; and NeuroPace, Inc. (1997) a developer of implantable brain pacemakers to treat epilepsy.

After earning his Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Cornell University, David joined Bell Laboratories in 1979 where, for 11 years, he performed and directed a wide range of research and development projects. He left Bell Labs in 1991 to work full time on medical devices. He currently holds 85 issued U.S. patents, and has published numerous papers in the fields of telecommunications, cardiology, radiobiology, and radiation dosimetry.

Tim Fischell, MD.

A practicing interventional cardiologist, prolific inventor and entrepreneur, Dr. Fischell is currently Professor of Medicine at Michigan State and Medical Director of the Borgess Heart Institute Department of Cardiovascular Research and the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program. An inventor and co-inventor on over 70 patented devices, he co-designed the stent upon which the J&J drug-eluting stent platform is based. Co-founder of several biomedical start-up companies (Ablative Solutions, Svelte, Ostial Solutions, etc.), his honors include the Thorax Center Andreas Gruentzig Award for Inventor of the Year in 1997. Dr. Fischell has presented over 200 papers and authored more than 110 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 20 book chapters.

If something comes of this relationship with a business association to BIOELECTRONICS in any way shape or form, I think we are in for one helluva ride. It would be nothing but eye opening if something came of this 'rumor'.

Brilliant and extremely wealthy!! And possibly interested in this company and products? Nice rumor to speculate and dream about.

Kelly has been inviting Dr. Fischell to the office for 5 years and finally, he accepted. Like Kelly's persistence and I'm sure she was listening to every word he said. Who knows the day after his visit someone took a small position of 400 million shares. :)
