Cleveland clinic estimates that 1% of people who are prescribed FQ suffer debilitating cartilage issues. That would be 30,000 per year. In addition there are those that suffer from cognitive, cardiac, and other metabolic issues. The truth is that doctors do not have a proper diagnostic protocols or treatments for these side effects and most people go undiagnosed until they finally heal or die. For some the cognitive and psychiatric effect is so horrible that they commit suicide even before they are diagnosed.
From what I've learned on this board it is also possible that FQ is responsible for prenatal mitochondrial dysfunction and it could be the cause of diseases like Rett Syndrome, Fragile X, and Autism.
We need more science and less payola.
