To me it looks as they have the upper hand. However, what gets me is the continuous beating on the issue that I find it useless. Unless, someone works for institutions wanting to keep the price under control. JIMO!!!!!
Regardless even if this annoys me, it makes no difference to my decision. I come to this site for the wealth of scientific knowledge that some (quite a few) bring to the table. I work and do not have the ability to do the research. But, I am a good cheer leader!!!!
