Pragmatism is in short supply around here, as you've witnessed. People think out loud ( in this board's case, mindlessly type in the car or before they go on a hike, etc...) and set themselves up for the artillery squad that follows.

Why would a settlement conference be open to the public? Think about it. Seems like common sense to me.

Settlement Conference
There is no court reporter present, and only the parties, their attorneys, and the judge attend

That also means notice that the next day's status conference is on/off is immediately known to all parties.
