Or...swing traders are anticipating a positive earnings report and are buying positions to sell the +5% pop like what happened in July.

5% pop would put the stock up through major long term resistance (ice line) which would then become major support - creating a very unfavorable reward risk ratio for sellers/shorts. No smart investor or trader (swing trader) is going to sell the stock at that level. I don't get your logic in making that broad statement when factoring in support/resistance, unless you in fact believe manipulation (up or down) trumps the above.
