Re: Ray Kroc, the guy behind Macdonald's success was

drowning. He replied "stick a garden hose in his mouth".

Intel should assume K8L will be whipped into great shape
and aim to beat it in all respects. If it falls short of that
then so much the better, really put the boot in.

I totally agree, Chipguy.

But what more can Intel do in the short term? I expect them to launch 1333MT/s quad core parts mid year, and give them a kicker in frequency to boot. So it's not as if Barcelona will go up against 2.66GHz/1066 Kentsfield, but rather 3.0GHz/1333 Kentsfield. And of course if 45nm parts show up a quarter or two later, all the better. While K8L will be grasping to reach 3.0GHz, Intel will be aiming 45nm towards 4GHz.

By the way, I don't think AMD will have an easy job of reaching their 2.7-2.9GHz targets that were once published as Barcelona clock speeds. It will more likely be 2.2-2.3GHz for 95W and 2.4-2.5GHz for 120W. At least in the beginning. IMHO.
