To be in a truly "fasted" state the body has to go without ANY food for 17 hours on average. A person who works out often, has a fast metabolism and eats healthy can experience the effects of fasting in as little as 14 hours.

Personally I fast for 17 hours to make sure my body is experiencing autophagy, which is where the true benefit of fasting lies. You body is basically eating itself......cleaning out old cells as using them as energy and replacing with new. I always exercise in a fasted state but to take fermeted BCCAs....5 grams before I work out and 5 grams after. My normal eating regime begins 1:00p-7:00pm. My workout and fitness regime is pretty rugged...Crossfit and Tabata workouts with some Olympic lifts built in during the week, straight body building and accessory work 1-2 days a week, and running 8 miles 1 time a week on Saturday or Sunday. The hardest part about fasting is insuring you are consuming enough macros before that 7pm time-bell. Its a all out eating fest from 4-7pm. Tons and tons of veggies and always organic grass fed beef, chicken and fish for protein. I have to supplement my protein intake with 100% grass-fed whey protein concentrate.

The short of it all is fasting makes you feel younger, and is 100% making you younger. I use Inside Track (a service) to keep track of my biology...my T-Levels went from 485 to 900 within 3 months of fasting and my human-growth hormone nearly tripled. Other blood work has never been better. At 45 I am in better shape then I was at 25. And stronger as well.
