If to be able to 'short' was put on a ballot, normal investors would vote the practice down

Hi Mike, I myself am mixed on this. I am not against the practice of shorting. Its the manipulation of a stock during a short attack that I am against.

I have a cash account and have never shorted a stock, but I understand it.. and can't blame anyone for doing it in a legitimate fashion.

To me there is a BIG difference between a private individual hearing bad news on a company, then shorting the stock in anticipation of the price dropping - and someone like Andrew Left purposely releasing a statement with the intent of pushing a stock price down for the financial benefit of himself and his thousands of followers. The second example is just outright unethical and immoral.
