#7180 RE: Windbag1014 #7175

I thank you as well for the kind words!

We approach the stock market from very different points of origin, to be sure. Whereas you express concern for market downturns, I view them as opportunities for further "SMART" investments. I'll sell some NGL at $14 and over if I can get a $0.75 profit for each transacted unit. As I add political and oil patch things up, I'm not expecting dynamic leaps upward for any MLP, not even this one I've truly enjoyed...and respect greatly.

As I survey stock purchases, I'm always aware of adding a temporal reality to the buy...if I buy 1,000 of anything, it's because I like my prospects---NOW! I added to two positions this morning because the prices were looking good to me---now.

You, on the other hand, appear to be thinking in terms of taking an action that will be as a new suit for your portfolio. I gather it's similar to enlarging your wardrobe and you expect to make good use---and more permanent use---of the changes you make.

Being a full-time (and a half!) investor, I'm always plugged into things relative to my stock holdings. That translates into being ready to effect changes on dime-time. So, then, for me at least, percentages don't count for much as they define my exposure to risk. In other words, I'm not a conservative market player. And I'm not suggesting you are, either, for you may simply be allocating differently than I due to need.

In the end, I routinely work things out so that I've got $40K to $50K coming in via distributions and dividends. That plus wifely income (retired lady) and IRAs make for handsome living conditions. However, and this may define the greatest difference of all for you and me---I always do far better income-wise through trading and capital appreciation than I do through MLP "allowances."

You ask if your NGL exposure is "...off here?" Only you can answer that for only you know the circumstances driving you to do as you do. Being as adept and probative as you certainly are as can be readily evidenced by reading your comments, my hunch is that you're being more careful than I would be---but in your life-situation I might well do exactly as you're doing!

Bottom line:

Do as YOU are comfortable and happiest doing! There can be no worthwhile challenge to living gracefully. It's our number 1 goal.

Thank you for pushing me as you have through your post. You've got me thinking hard and reassessing my own stance. That invites growth.
