Doesn’t make much sense. They could have definitely bought 1.4m shares cheaper than the options ($16 calls plus premium) when the stock was trading $15-15.2

If they sold Puts would make more sense as that's normally how you try to get into a stock at a lower basis from what it is currently trading.
