He's not alone. There are thousands like him in all walks of life.
I agree with your point that he sees only whats in front of him and what he can gain from it.

I also believe his (the principal of nanosux) kind of crime isn't a big deal to him because he's been doing it for so long, it's like a way of life to him and doesn't feel wrong. Maybe all the court stuff he just sees as a hindrance or annoyance and as long as no one is pounding on his 'non owned house' door, he can just blank it out in his mind and life.

Apparently more than a few people have commented that people around him have no real clue whats going on. Beyond family, that's entirely possible, but within family and close associates, that seems impossible.

What did he tell his family, who could only go there to see him and he doesn't come home for two years? I'm in a think tank and sequestered for two years? I'm in a secret work detail?

I think the only one living a lie and hiding from the truth is the principal himself.

Well, that's why he would be considered criminally insane. He already has court mandated metal health treatments ongoing. Maybe criminally insane is incurable? Not even a year and a half stay in Federal prison was enough to affect his behavior in the least bit.
