Oh please. The principle of morality is empathy; what differs are our approaches to that principle, and how we interpret our feelings of empathy in order to make a coherent system. In short, atheists can be just as, if not more, moral than the religious.

Contrast this to the fundamental Christian approach: pray sincerely and you can be forgiven for anything. That, to me, is the ultimate lack of consequence.

Poppycock! That argument is specious and ridiculous.

Any healthy human is well aware of the penalties of disregarding social codes and perhaps even the attack of conscience when acting contrary to socially prescribed law.

I am certainly not going to worry about some after life punishment when looming directly in front of me is something that restricts my freedom.

True law comes from within. It can be stated in few words.

"Do no harm..."
