Jag, my neighbor works for a very large distributor (wine, whiskey, and other various alcoholic beverages) I asked what his role in the company was and he explained that he spends 5 days per week pushing products. Again he works for very large distributor. A couple weeks ago I stopped by a liquor store to grab a bottle of wine and there he was. Folding table set up and pushing some "new or yet unknown" product. Seeing and knowing that he got hired to do this makes me believe that most if not all distributors have salesman pounding the pavement. I also knew a guy, kenny the beerman, he was the salesman for our local beer distributor and was always running around trying to get product on shelves.

I called Savannah distributing in Atlanta to see where I could obtain Kona drinks around Marietta. There were two stores within 30 miles. I went to one that carried energy drinks in 3 flavors. I bought one of each to taste. I thought they were quite tasty. The drinks were very hard to find in the store. They were not with the other energy drinks like I assumed they would be. They were on the bottom shelf under juice and water. Almost didn't even see them. I agree with the point of your post.
