Until China increases domestic consumption, and develops a healthy middle class, it will remain a third class nation. Exports keep the economy humming. If the tariffs stay much longer, some of the top-notch US companies like Apple will shift their manufacturing elsewhere - China no longer has the lowest costs.
As far as currency manipulation goes, perhaps all countries do it to some extent. But the communist countries have a lot more control than, say, India.
