#154656 RE: GTman1 #154648

Thank you for the ideas and info, GT, and that points up another element of this whole deal when we try to understand what the price tag might be for Spider Silk products. As a for example, there's an interesting example when one looks at pricing of 'organic' marked groceries, as opposed to 'non organic' which ends up being cheaper, which doesn't actually make sense except from a standpoint of marketing 'organic' and selling it as a 'gourmet' priced item, rather than just a healthier product for everyone per se. In theory, if one produces and grows food with less pesticides and additives it should be a 'cheaper' product because supposedly we're not paying for those chemicals and additives, but when I go into most stores 'organic' usually means we're gong to pay a 'gourmet price' for the item. So 'organic' is really being used as a marketing 'gimmick' to get people to pay even higher prices for supposedly wanting to eat healthier! In that example it's obvious that sellers, marketers, and producers are pricing 'organic' for what the 'market will bear' to get higher profits and pricing is not necessarily related to production cost. That might also becomes the case with Spider Silk, just as kids will pay $500 for the latest fashion limited edition sneaker so they can have 'the latest thing', but in the end does that sneaker really use so much more or better materials than the same amount of material and weight as another cheaper sneaker with less of a new wave fashion styling? I imagine that's something that the search for new board member will address, 'what the market will bear', and 'the I gotta have it' issues with respect to marketing and research. So that aspect of all this ought to be very interesting indeed!
