Re: EPA/AA ratios...

Actually in this last citation (CME) of Bb's with Miller and Bhatt...addressing the R-I trial results; EPA came up in the discussion and there was mention of what they termed the "EPA hypothesis"..

So I believe the falconer hears the falcon's cry...And the EPA/AA ratio will soon take center stage as the new paradigm in CVD.

A great deal is known about the molecular and cellular effects of EPA (over 500 papers) and the Eicosanoid System...I know it was not taught in med school when I attended and I'm not sure how much attention it receives currently..So it maybe that EPA is well understood by medical scientists but this information has never been able to breach the gap between science and clinical medicine...

The EPA hypothesis is currently "hypothetical" in clinical medicine and needs to be developed...It's like back to the days when medicine first learned about micro organisms...The EPA hypothesis is going to require new terms and new ideas.. The EPA hypothesis is simply that the EPA/AA ratio is paramount in controlling resting Systemic Inflammation (SI): and elevation of SI accelerates the course of all degenerative diseases which are associated with aging. The EPA/AA ratio may not be the only factor that accelerates or decelerates degeneration seen in the aging process, but provides the playing field for other factors.

Using an analogy to music; the EPA/AA sets the sound level and other factors such as smoking, obesity, and diet are the notes...Doctors will understand this and the time will come when they say..How could we have missed it for so long...
