21st century medicine in a nutshell..

Quote:

The ideal pharmacogenomics test will be able to determine:
• Potential for a medication to be
effective – for this person
• The best dose of a medication –
for this person
• Avoid risk of serious side effects
– for this person

Too many drug companies and healthcare institutions stuck in the 20th century.

People are dying because of this.

I would add to this that the time required to demonstrate efficacy is/will changed by the application of new research and science.
Not long ago science claimed that more patients for longer time was the only method of proof allowed. All this ever proved was no matter how long a trial is run, it still does not change the fact that the treatment did not work. Five years or 5 days, so what, it still did not work, get over it. Precision medicine will help to establish certainty based on biomarkers and a better precision tool suite. Trials should be verification that the precision science treatment performed as planned. It moves the entire research discussion to the left-upstream where it belongs.
Effective use of Precision medicine will mark the end of the bad old days which proved nothing and which cost billions while patients died. They did prove that poor science does not work, no matter how long it is tried. It also will help to save the most valuable thing we all have, time.
