Whoa, Dan...

Don't get ahead of yourself here. AMD has proven nothing. The announcement is tomorrow. I would suggest that you not "worry ahead" nor "spend ahead".

re: Remember when Intel....

Hey Dan,

Remember when AMD was profitable? Or can't you remember that far back? Geez, has it been two years already? (snort)

Intel, fat, dumb, and happy, as AMD chews away at the most lucrative market segments Intel used to control.

That must be why Intel margins keep going up.

Remember when Intel had a monopoly on mobile?

Remember when Intel had a monopoly on SMP servers?

Remember when Intel had a monopoly on large clusters?

Your memory is as faulty as ever. Intel isn't a monopoly
and never has been. The DOJ and/or FTC say it isn't. Only
losers like 'droids and unsuccessful competitors of Intel
claim otherwise.

A walk down memory lane....

Dan3 says: Remember when Intel had a monopoly on mobile?
Remember when Intel had a monopoly on SMP servers?
Remember when Intel had a monopoly on large clusters?

Right, Dan, Intel's glory days are over, based on your speculation.

Reminds me of some of your previous predictions:

"AMD starts making money in Q3 as .13 ramps, hopefully aided by some recovery in the flash market. Intel starts losing money in Q4 as Hammer forces Intel to cut prices on a number of its high end lines."

"It won't be quite the same for the hammers, since AMD won't be going from 6% to 8% of the market to 18% to 24% of the market this time. They'll be going for 30% to 40% of the market by Q3 of next year, and that will require that they maintain a volume of entry level chips. Figure on, for the later quarters of next year, 3-5 million .18 Athlons from UMC each quarter, and 10-12 million hammers from Dresden - each quarter."

In Q4, hammer arrives, mirror bit volume will be at high volume, and AMD will be able to command higher ASPs for both CPUs and flash with its compelling 64-bit CPUs and faster, more reliable flash - but AMD's costs will continue to be very low. AMD is well positioned to make good money in Q4 and mint money in 2003 and H1, 2004. By H2, 2004 or 2005 Intel will also have an SOI process and will be competitive with AMD once again - but, by then, the position of the two companies in the industry will likely have permanently changed, with AMD being as large and wealthy as Intel, if not larger and wealthier."

Don't worry, Dan. I didn't waste any precious time digging up these links. I already had them bookmarked. For prosperity.
