Looks like a possible culprit especially if jackscrew was found fully in the trimmed-down position.

I'd actually searched for a sketch of the jackscrew yesterday. Your video of it in operation is even better. Thanks.

Fantastic info. Thx. Looks like pilots didn't take over "manually", but we will see. Still it shouldn't have been the "dive" position.

Excellent video. Good demonstration of what takes place in the cockpit when the stab trim is running. Note clacker sounding and those big wheels spinning while the trim is in motion.

Here's another good video. It starts out addressing the rudder hardovers the 737 series had encountered, but at the 27:45 mark he switches over to pitch/stabilizer anomalies. He describes the 727's trim system, but it's the same on the 737 and even in the new MAX version. In both the Lion Air and Ethiopian crash the crew had the ability to readily kill the automation and fly the plane manually. Did they?
