I would agree this seems a bit odd of a ruling, though there is this disclaimer at the top of the website of the 8th circuit:

So maybe the court goes into more informed detail elsewhere. Regardless, it will be interesting to see if Axos (who acquired COR) will pursue the issue further, or will decide to finally lay it to rest.
