Zo, Doc, a few (naw, many) words about that video.
First, those guys do a very credible yobb as Chicawhoans. They have the routine down pat. Even the accent is pretty close. Those guys could be in any of thousands of bars in Chicagoland - or in the most hallowed place, a personal residence with a basement bar - THAT is sooo Chicawgoland suburbia - the basement bar in yer house. Hunnerts of thousands of them throughout NE IllyNoise. The basement bar is the place for the watching of DaGame, quaffing endless beers and cocktails whilst the homeowner has the burgers and brats and some Polish on the outdoor gas grill and wifey is mixing up the potato salad and refilling the bowls of chips, nuts, Cheetos, and popcorn in the basement bar (must have at least one lighted beer advertising sign lit and some strings of mini Christmas tree lights - better if they are blinkers). Sometimes, it's double-baked potatoes also on the grill, mebbe steaks if your boss is over for DaGame.
Second, and this is my personal view butt is shared by many, is that Chicawgo, while certifiably within the boundaries of DaUppaMidwess and also a magnet city - perhaps THE magnet city of the region, is a special case and nott really that representative of DaUppaMidwess peoples. It's kind of a special zone of its own. People are much louder, brasher, less courteous, faster paced, and have a much more intense, very different vibe than the rest of DaUppaMidwess.
Now I don't know Detroit very well, butt mebbe Detroit is like Chicawgo in these differences. Zorax prolly has a good idea about the differences betwen Detroit and say the rest of Michigan.
Butt this is my personal takeaway of the metropolitan areas in DaUppa Midwess. Des Moines - yup, they're Iowans and they mostly work in insurance and financial industries - clean, an urbane Iowan - maybe gradyeeated UI or I-State and left the farm to gett a collitch-edukayted yobb in Iowa, which pretty much limits you to Des Moines. Nott loud people, graceful, straightforward, nott brusque. St. Louis - at the interface of DaUppaMidwess and DaSouff; hot, humid, DANGEROUS, butt the Cardinals are followed widely in Iowa and the Dakotas - St. Louisians seem to have more Souff in them than DaUppaMidwess. Milwaukee - nobody moves to Milwaukee, Miwaukeeans are born there, live there, and die there - except Jeffrey Dahmer, he won a paid trip to Portage in his later years - nott urbane people, a lott of crime, and unremarkable - the only thing that ever happens in Milwaukee is Summerfest - other than that, it's like the Cleveland of DaUppa Midwess. Minneapolis-S. Paul - OK, MPLS is where gay people in DaUppaMidwess move to after collitch (or before) - it's the San Frisco/N'Awlins of DaUppaMidwess - and now if you're from Somalia, you also live in MPLS - if you're native-born and poor, St. Paul is the place for you - also for Minneapolitans to score drugs; MPLS people are somewhat urbane, nott loud, kinda like the Garrison Keillor Lake Woebegon people, except they use a lot of drugs and amyl nitrate poppers - for metropolitan areas, Minneapolis-St. Paul and Des Moines are more representative of the average UppaMidwess personal than other cities, IMO - although crime in St. Paul is a big prollem. Indianapolis - Indy is a CONfused city, it is partly Southern, a bit UppaMidwess, and a bit central Ohio; Indy is DANGEROUS, particularly in the central city and near east and NW sides of the central city; I cannot say I regard Indianapolitans as UppaMidwesterners, although as a state, Indiana is in the region; Indianapolitans have a weird character - like they migrated from Columbus, Ohio or watched way too much Leave It to Beaver and then Combat TV series when they were younger - another ~OUTTlier nott really representative of DaUppaMidwess IMO. Detroit - axe Zorax - I've never gotten a good read on that place. Those are the major metro areas with the boundaries of what I CONsider DaUppa Midwess. Some may cite some Ohio cities, and I could see that argument for NW and central Ohio. The Dakotas don't really have any metro areas.
Butt as compared to even all these metro areas, which are nott very representative of the rural volk of DaUppaMidwess, Chicawgo is the biggest ~OUTTlier and the least representative of the characteristics of the vast majority of DaUppaMidwess, which is rural and often extremely rural.
So, Doc, enjoy the SNL Chicawgoan skit - it's pretty spot-on - butt don't take that as any caricature applicable to the peeps of DaUppaMidwess in general. There is little resemblance a'tall.
Personally, I am VERY glad my parents moved ~OUTT of Chicawgoland when I was a tiny tyke. Whenever we would drive to visit fambly in the Chicawgoland area, the entire area gave me the heebie-jeebies and I knew I would never live there. Now I enjoy visiting on binniss often, and it has many fun things to do and see, butt it's nott for moi. Ever. It's only a very distant part of my fambly past, and most of those aspects are gone now (e.g., the Village Bakery). The Loop is quite nicer now than it was in the '70s or '80s, butt it is nice to visit rather than live there.
