there is a different tax that can kick in called Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) where higher income levels that requires you to pay a higher percentage on your income. I know that has changed some with the recent tax law changes.



Yeah AMT phases in at $500,000 for individuals and is fully phased in around $780,000 (I forget the exact number). Double that for married. If you want to keep your deductions you'd want to keep your income below those numbers.

I got hit with AMT last year..... and it is FUGLY!!! Like hitting a very painful alternate universe that you never knew existed. Talk to a tax person before doing anything because once you sell - it will be too late to go back and fix it.
