Look I'm on your side to the tune of nearly 100k [ real dollars]- this was not a customer service flunky- It was a flunky night shift broker- Schwab offers 24 hour broker assistance . Anyone who has schwab can call and see if what my flunky said jibes with another flunky says,

I suspect it didn't happen. Incorporations (and I presume mergers) must declare public or private. "public" means you plan to trade publically. Suspect it was just a canned response due to the merger & no ticker at the time. I believe there are also laws governing the merging of a pubic company, as you imply.
