I feel what this board does is a waste of time

It constantly amazes me that so many people say that unless you are doing something to solely make money, the task has no value. Clearly they have no hobbies.

To the posters here, it is a hobby. Let's compare it to say, golf. Sure there are golf professionals that get paid for playing. But there are about 30,000 golf professionals in the US, while there are millions upon millions of unpaid amateurs who play just for the fun of it. So I guess all those amateurs playing golf are just "a waste of time".

And some of the amateurs are excellent players - perhaps as good as many professionals. But they choose to play for fun, not for profit.

And what about retired professionals that play, but no longer for money. They have lots of time on their hands, so they shouldn't ever play golf once they retire because there is no money in it?

And what about professionals that play for practice or with friends for fun? Maybe they also like passing on some of their hard earned knowledge and skill to others? I guess they should only play in tournaments or giving lessons where they are paid cold hard cash - otherwise what they do is also a "waste of time".

The posters on this board fall into all 3 categories. And yes, they do expose scams. And (sometimes) the regulators listen and take action. And sometimes other people learn something, too. A nice byproduct of the process, but certainly not the purpose of the exercise.

The people who post here each have their own reasons for doing so, but money is not one of them. Thankfully, there are still many things in this world that are not about money. Or screwing over your fellow man for your own profit.
