#208199 RE: john1045 #208192

One knowledgeable person about DcVaxL under a pseudo name HOBP commented as below. Sorry, copy &paste didn't show commenters names. Yes, Fox News reports this story and GoFundMe setup everything but did not want to disclose L is that experimental treatment the family wants. What an unethical journalism and media reporting that FoxNews plays.

Check out the GoFundMe page for Laura - tells much more of the story, including reference to DCVax-L treatment (they still need $105,000 for that treatment, since the British NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) has not yet approved same. --- See below for additional info and the status in the U.S.A.

Glioblastoma brain tumors ("GBM" - Glioblastoma Multiforme) will soon no longer be considered "incurable". Northwest Biotherapeutics has now completed a Phase III trial of it's DCVax-L immune therapy, in which a SIGNIFICANT percentage of enrollees have gone on to live 3 - 5 years (and counting) past treatment. This after other treatments (chemo, radiation) were initially applied, without success. --- If ALL trial enrollees had received the DCVax-L from the beginning the results would likely have been much more dramatic, but unfortunately such design and control methods are in the nature of drug trials - and the long and winding road to FDA approval.

Trial data analysis and announcement of results will be forthcoming, and hopefully this drug will be rapidly approved by the FDA / made fully available to save a lot of lives......

I hope you're right. However, R&D comes at a very high cost and pharmaceutical company's only a limited time ( 20 yrs ) to recoup their investment , so, I imagine the costs to patient will be extremely high since competition cannot drive the cost down.

Laura's mother on GoFundMe page states treatment is estimated to cost 151,000 Pounds, or $193,000 U.S. Dollars. From what I understand, Northwest Biotherapeutics may price it between $100,000 and 120,000 in the U.S., most of which will be covered by insurance after FDA approval. Current standard of treatment for GBM is radiation and chemo (usually BOTH are used), is 95 - 98% UNSUCCESSFUL, and also runs $100,000 or more. Side effects of these two treatments are terrible / very negatively affect quality of life, while DCVax-L in trials has demonstrated little to no side effects.
