Isnt galvanic corrosion a result of a metal femoral head that is dissimilar to the femoral stem? The corrosion is usually at the neck where the two metals meet.

Femoral stems can and do corrode btw.

The whole reason industry went to a modular design was:

Modularity in total hip arthroplasty provides multiple benefits to the surgeon in restoring the appropriate alignment and position to a previously damaged hip joint.



The answer to the fretting/corrosion problem is not to return to the 1 piece design.
