I just cornered dr Underberg after the lecture. Had a fascinating conversation. I told him I was at the AHA and was amazed by the results. He said “everyone was”. He the said “ I can’t believe the vitriol that came out after the results were presented online and on blogs” I know all the authors personally and felt horrible about the treatment they received. They are excellent researchers. People were treating this LIKE A FAKE MOON LANDING!
Concerning the MO issue “I feel it was well explained by Bhatt and is a “non issue”
He said he would prescribe only per RI population for now and is awaiting fda approval as he thinks insurers won’t cover it. - Disappointing
I asked about the possibility of inclusion in interim lipid guidelines. He said unlikely until new guidelines in 4-5 years BUT he expects AHA and lipid organizations STATEMENTS much sooner and these would be powerful min terms of determining the Standard of Care
Hope this is helpful coming from a lipid thought leader. Only one opinion but my take is medical community is on board that insurance coverage is key and that interim statements and fda approval will be important
