This is clearly not right. The endless programme has been funded by this stock.
Four or five years ago I had the pleasure of spending one of those long hot Sunday afternoon garden parties with 30 or so research scientists at a Russell Group University. I ghosted around from group to group . As the alcohol flowed the conversation common to most was the extreme lengths that almost any would go to to get funding for their individual research.
The stories, the ruses , were hilarious. None of them wanted money (other than for their project) or even fame (other than peer recognition), but it was clear that most would have done or said almost anything to get funding.
The difference with Prof Lau is that she is an MBA. She will fully understand the business context of the huge funding delivered for this trial .... and more importantly its continuation. Believe me... she is involved.
