Very small short position in AMRN - over the last month, daily short % hasn't gone over 42%, usually in the 30's, so mostly covering. You're theory is the right one IMO - this is the MM's trying to get all of those Nov 16 ITM/NTM calls expire worthless - OI on calls from $17 to $30 is 177k, with a whopping 30k at $30 strike - I'd bet the majority of those 177k calls expire worthless, and hope not too many folks here made large bets on Nov 16 calls > $21-$22 because you probably just pissed all that money away. BTW, TDA shows 171k fromm $19-$30, not 155k, not that it matters much.
