The very first investment presentation I attended was when I was in college, long, long ago. A broker spoke about two stocks he liked. One was Caterpillar and the other was a concrete company that did fairly well and was eventually bought out years later.
So I've always followed CAT somewhat. At least back in those days, it didn't perform very well. No question it's "Buffett type" stock. In fact BRK has a big, long-held position in John Deere.
As I recall Buffett's son Howard, a farmer, uses and test-drives Deere equipment on this mammoth farm in Central Illinois.
