I didn't really handle securities fraud cases. The one I mentioned, I was only involved in because I prosecuted the spammer and as a Cyber AUSA I was familiar with what he was doing and better able to deal with the technical aspects of that case.

The related prosecutions were a combination of pump-and-dump schemes either hijacking an IPO for a legitimate, privately-financed company or creating wholly fictitious companies and creating a fake IPO of them. In both cases, the perpetrators completely controlled the stock of the companies and just dumped it as fast as they could for as much as they could while the spammer tried to boost interest in the securities.

So a lot of my knowledge in this sphere is due to spending about 3 years involved in this series of cases. Outside of that, I have a lot of knowledge about how federal investigations and prosecutions work and some general knowledge about how class actions and civil suits work.
