Your sad story is why none of my PTs takes insurance - you pay in cash and deal with insurance yourself - they're all self employed, cannot afford to be denied payments. Chiro takes insurance, but she works in a clinic with staff to handle that stuff - still had to raise rates when ICD-10 went into force because of increased paperwork loads. My internist does not accept insurance either, partly to keep costs down and partly because of the headaches involved - he'll give you a bill and it's up to you to get reimbursed - but his Medicare patients are not allowed to seek reimbursement, and we have to sign a document every year saying we won't bill Medicare. I have no idea why he has that rule, probably worried about getting investigated for Medicare fraud because he's a Lyme specialist, and they're considered alternative docs viewed with suspicion, because the CDC still claims chronic Lyme disease does not exist, which is utter bullshite.
