Wow. If that is true, I am very embarrassed to have fallen for it, which was presented as news and may, then, have been false. Here is the exact copy of what caused my comment:

*Comstock Mining Announces Intent To Advance the Dayton Resource Development, Discovered 3 feet of 0.246 opt Gold And 3.553 opt Silver In Crosscutting Mineralization; Shares Rise 26.6% Premarket

Believe me, I am not touting this stock, neither buy nor sell, although I am long of it, hopefully for the long term, not trading.

They have been doing definition drilling on the Dayton, don't know what made you think otherwise. Maybe because they haven't been producing PR's about it? I'm not going to go back and dig it up from the transcripts but that is how I remember where I read about it. But it is mentioned in this PR and I think that it has been a topic of discussion in some of the conference calls. Might have read about in the SEC filings.

But yes, this newly uncovered zone was revealed by erosion and a meter wide sample was dug out for evaluation using a spectroscopic examination and a fire assay.
It is being explored right now to learn how big this shear zone is.
This should end up delaying the NI 43-101 until the full size of the zone is understood.
They were already preparing to issue a new NI 43-101. Now with this new type of mineralized zone having different characteristics there is going to be new and unexpected information that they will need to understand before they can include it in the report.
