Was watching a you tube segment on Jack Ma of Alibaba inspirational Q & A at Tel Aviv university yesterday. He commented that he would rather write a book on the 1000 mistakes the company made before it got to where it is now than on the success story only. I think we of the west place to much emphasis on not accepting failure rather than the lessons to be learned. The pressure on CEOs to perform and deliver positive quarterly results leads to focus on short terms performance to the detriment of long term results. The use of debt at low interest to buy back shares and boost earnings ratios will come back to haunt a lot of companies.
